Meaning of Buesa

Buesa Meaning: Exploring the Surname's Origin and Etymology

The surname Buesa has its roots in Aragonese heritage, originating from a noble family with a solar house located in Buesa (from which the name was derived) in the Broto Valley, Sarvisé municipality, Boltaña district, in the province of Huesca. Over time, this family name has appeared in church archives as Buesa, Guessa, Huessa, and in the last century as Huesa.

Subsequently, this family moved to the town of Bolea in the Huesca district, where they were always regarded as nobles by blood and nature, exempt from paying the "maravedí" tax that they were supposed to pay earlier every seven years, instead contributing towards the Resident Service Shield in the town of Bolea.

The Buesas held prominent positions within the city and were not exempt from stock market regulations, which led to them assuming honorary roles in Bolea as mentioned earlier. They also owned several solar houses in Aragon, such as in Montearagón, Formois, Albero Alto, Buñales, Ayés, Arto, Bernués, Artosilla, Castillo de Lerés, Broto, Linás de Broto, Torla, Sarvisé, Ayés de Santa Cristina, Atarés, and Yeba in Huesca, as well as in Oliete and Fortanete in Teruel, as documented in the Aragonese Fogueración of 1495.

The lineage's oldest known knight, José Buesa Lobico, was granted jurisdiction in his infancy by Jaime Ric y Veyán, Lieutenant of Justice of Aragon, in 1705. In 1727, Doctor Mateo Buesa, a physician and resident of Bolea, obtained this right once again, passed down to him, his children, and descendants through legitimate marriage.

Notably, Buesa households were also present in Biescas de Tena, various towns in Serrablo, Jacetania, and Arascués, all within the province of Huesca. In regards to the Infanzón process, Mateo Buesa, a resident of Castejón de Monegros in 1803, and Pascual Buesa, a resident of Arascués in 1794, successfully won their cases before the Royal Court of Aragon.
